The Constitution of India is the highest law of the country. It was adopted on 26 January 1950 and sets out how India is governed. It explains the rights of citizens, the duties we must follow, and the powers of the government. The Constitution also describes how the Union and the States share responsibilities. It is called a “living document” because it can be changed through amendments to meet new needs. More than just rules, it reflects the values of justice, equality, liberty, and fraternity that guide the nation.
